Within dissociation, the concept of the self breaks down which strips the individual of their transcendental essence and reduces them down to mere ego functions as an attempt to retain the self other distinction, this allows the individual to remain within a social structure which is essential for relationships, community, continuity, reality testing though other minds as well as countless other essential functions. The problem is the transcendental realm can no longer be fulfilled through social structure for individuals suffering with dissociation as the self other distinction is merely held up by the ego and not felt, so this realm needs to be tapped into through other means as we are creatures of connection, and become more when we connect
The distinction between the self and other is not a fundamental truth but rather something we as society utilise as a tool to build long term relationships which is a useful evolutionary survival function. The transcendental self is different from the ego self, it can take on many different forms and doesn’t necessarily have the same unitary self/other distinction in order to define it, this self can relate in many different ways to the essence of creation. This self is the pure essence of the being itself, and when relational structures are disrupted through trauma, this essence within the individual is not lost but has just temporarily lost its ability to relate to others through the self/other distinction, leaving the individual alone with their isolated essence without being able to share it and tap into other interpersonal sources. This essence is not totally isolated from the rest of the world's essence and the traumatised individual can tap into other sources of connection without this distinct self other boundary we utilise in order to interact with the world. The Kabbalistic literature is about tapping into this connective energy through the essence of the self, dis-identifying with the ego and allowing the essence of the individual to connect and relate to other essences without requiring ego functions, returning temporarily to the state of our primordial parent. This allows the person with dissociation a way to reconnect their essence to the intelligence of creation once again, allowing their essence to give and receive
